5 Tips To Transition Flooring

Your floors are a fundamental part of your house, and each room has significantly different requirements when it comes to flooring. For this reason, you need to think carefully about your transition flooring. Here are some tips that might help.

1. Style

You will first need to consider what styles you prefer and the ambience you want to achieve from both the rooms the transition flooring will be bordering. Another thing you might want to consider, which can help your floors to transition better, is how the wall colours complement your flooring. If you're installing wooden flooring in a hallway and dark grey carpet in the living room, make sure the walls in each space compliment these colours (for example, white walls in the hallway and light grey walls in the living room). This will be more pleasing to the eye and make the transition between each room more subtle.

2. Continuity

It can help to bring your home together if you choose one kind of transition flooring for all of the joins in your house. This creates a sense of continuity and adds a recognisable motif to your rooms even if your flooring choices are completely different.

3. Material

You need to consider the materials you are joining together; for example, when joining carpet with tiling or hardwood, there will be a difference in height and texture. This can be combatted by using a reducer transition strip which will help to take away from the difference in floor heights so that it's not only less noticeable but also safer, since it reduces the trip hazard of varying floor levels.

4. Shapes

One way you can make your transition flooring more interesting is by choosing a more irregular shape. Instead of trying to hide the join, why not make it a feature? Consider using angles or curves to make the join much more exciting and visually appealing.

5. Rugs

A great way to draw attention away from the difference between the flooring in two rooms is using a rug. A simple design can go a long way in connecting materials and a rug is especially useful since it can easily be swapped around or replaced when you want o change the atmosphere or look of your rooms.
